Madera Mayor Andrew Medellin declares November 25th Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday Madera 2017

Mayor Andrew Medellin announced that the City will be continuing to participate in Small Business Saturday this year. Small Business Saturday, a campaign started in 2010 by American Express, is held the Saturday after Thanksgiving and is designed to promote and support small businesses throughout the United States. Small Business Saturday not only seeks participation from small businesses to help promote them, it also encourages residents to “shop local” and “shop small”.

“The small business is the backbone of any community,” said Mayor Medellin. “Our local economy and our tax-base depends on that small business.”

Small Business Saturday was created to assist with one of the largest challenges small business owners face in modern times: getting customers into their stores. Since inception, Small Business Saturday has served as the ceremonial kickoff to the busy holiday shopping season for small, independently-owned businesses. The holiday saw the participation of more than 95 million consumers last year.

“Before you pull the computer out or drive south, I urge you to support those local businesses that support the City of Madera.”

In recognizing the importance of supporting independent businesses in Madera, Mayor Medellin has issued a proclamation designating Saturday, November 25, as Small Business Saturday in Madera.
